I don't test coffee kit in person. I won't pretend otherwise, so you won't see "I tested" or "in my kitchen" anywhere on Hoppin Hopper. Instead, every guide is built from four things you can check for yourself.

Published specs. I start with the manufacturer's own specifications and manuals: pump pressure, heat-up time, grind settings, tank size, dimensions and what comes in the box. Where sources disagree, I say so.

Dated UK prices. Every price names the retailer and the date I checked it, for example "at Sage UK, checked 28 Sep 2026". Prices change often, so if I can't confirm one, I'll say "check current price" rather than guess.

Owner feedback. I read what owners say in retailer reviews and forums, and I look for patterns rather than one-off rants or raves. If lots of people mention the same fault, it goes in the guide.

Cited public tests. Where independent testers have published results, I summarise them in my own words and link to the original. I never copy their work or pass it off as mine.

How I rank things. Picks are based on what suits different readers (budget, kitchen space and how you like your coffee), never on how much commission a retailer pays. Every verdict says who a product isn't for, and the downsides always go in.

Keeping it current. Each guide shows when it was last updated, with a short note when picks or prices change.
